Peace Himself

This is from a devotional called

"Jesus Calling" by Sarah Young.

I thought the one for today was pretty good.

You might too.

"The Peace that I give you transcends your intellect.

When most of your mental energy goes

into efforts to figure things out, you are unable

to receive this glorious gift.

I look into your mind and see thoughts spinning

round and round: going nowhere, accomplishing nothing.

All the while, My Peace hovers over you,

searching for a place to land.

Be still in My Presence, inviting Me to

control your thoughts. Let my Light soak

into your mind and heart, until you are aglow

with My very Being. This is the most effective

way to receive My Peace.

Now may the Lord of Peace Himself continually

grant you peace in every circumstance.

 2 Thessalonians 3:16

Yield now and be at peace with Him.

Thereby good will come to you.

Job 22:21

Then Mary said,

Behold, I am the handmaiden of the Lord;

let it be done to me according

to what you have said.

And the angel left her. Luke 1

Maybe we should be raising our daughters

to be 'handmaidens' of the Lord

instead of princesses,

thinking the world owes them something.

It's a matter of the heart you know.

Mary certainly was blessed because

of her heart condition.

No identity crisis.

Happy and blessed to be

the Lord's Handmaiden.

No crown

but great favor from her Lord.

The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer

of a righteous man makes tremendous

power available [dynamic in its working].

James 5:16 (Amplified)

O woman, your faith is great;

be it done for you

as you wish...and her daughter was healed at once.

Matthew 15:!4

When You did say, "Seek My Face", my heart said to You, "Your Face, O Lord, I shall seek."

Psalm 27

a heart response...what are possible 'heart responses' we might give

to this invitation?

"later, Lord"

"I have such a long list today, Lord. You understand."

"I'm so weary, Lord."

Your Face, O Lord, I shall seek.
and as we seek, we are "putting on the Lord Jesus Christ, putting on His heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. (Romans 13 and Colossians 3)

who doesn't need those as we go about our day?

we reflect what we have 'seen'

i have always loved the saints of old.....

rich reading, rich lives

reading testimonies in God's Word

biographies of great, influential saints

devotionals of old

this is some of what i have gleaned from them

that imperfection is essential

that knowledge is nothing without passion

that the greater the weakness the greater the strength

that most of the great, influential saints

suffered a great deal

a right God-sense of your sin

repent...and then repent some more

it is not the road that matters

only the pursuit of God

responding moment by moment

to His pursuit of you...

We are assured and know that {God being a partner in their labor] all things work together and are [fitting into a plan] for good to and for those who love God and are called according to [His] design and purpose. Romans 8:28

Delight yourself in the Lord

and He will give you the

desires of your heart

Psalm 37

There God is....wanting to give us the desires of our heart

for most of us

we don't even know what they would be

I imagine if we are truly

ourselves in Him

we would know that

His desires are our desires

that's how love is you know

Be still and you will know

Like a burning fire

Then I said, “I will not make mention of Him,
Nor speak anymore in His name.”
But His word was in my heart like a burning fire
      Shut up in my bones;
I was weary of holding it back,

      And I could not.

Jeremiah 20:9

synonyms:  damage, destroy, undermine, weaken, counteract,

disable, cripple, subvert, incapacitate

"the termination of something by causing so

much damage to it that it cannot be

repaired or no longer exists;

willfully injuring or destroying

Do you not know that your body is the temple (the very sanctuary) of the Holy Spirit Who lives within you, Whom you have received [as a Gift] from God? You are not your own, 1 Corinthians 6

There are many areas of our lives that we might apply

this word, sabotaged, to. Here, i just want to apply it to our bodies....

this is where the word sabotage and

this verse hits hard with me.

i can't change my heredity, but i can change my bad habits.

i can either sabotage my body by what i put in it,

not exercising, ignoring signs and symptoms,

just plain ole not living a healthy lifestyle.

Thereby, "sabotaging" the one fearfully and wonderfully"

made body that our heavenly Father has given me.

Not two bodies just in case we mess up with the first one.

Just one. This is it.

(until we go to be with Jesus of course.

But that's another story)

we take care of it. or suffer the consequences

of not taking care of it.

if we are doing something harmful because

'it calms me down and helps me cope and makes me happy"

that's a bit of an oxymoron, don't you think?

"it won't happen to me" is the

poster slogan for how we sabotage our bodies.

a lot of the time, we can reverse the damage

sometimes we can't

too late

i don't want that to be me

i don't want to be the 'saboteur' of my own body

the temple God has seen fit to give me

so i can be all He wants me to be

the antonyms of sabotage?

build, create, improve, repair restore, help, enable,

hmmm, what word describes your treatment of your

one body? your temple, your gift

The Woman at the Well

John 4

There came a woman of Samaria to draw water. Jesus said to  her, "Give Me a drink."

He knows where I am right now...He knows my struggles here at

"my Samaria"...He has come to me in the ordinariness of my life,

to change it...utterly...from the inside out...

Jesus didn't offer to dip her pot for her (at least it doesn't say so)

that was her "obvious practical' need

to her perhaps

Jesus always sees past the obvious

not that He isn't concerned about our every day needs

(Cast all your burdens on Him)

He's just more concerned with our heart and spirit

you know, the part of us that lives forever...

He started out on her level of understanding, "Give Me a drink,"

to make a personal connection and of course as we often

do, she voices her unbelief, " is it...?"

He tells her about a gift (we all like those, huh?)

and (the best part) she only has to ask for it

However, He said she needs to know Him first.

the invitation is always "Jesus first"

because of the culture then, I don't imagine

she was giving him any sort of 'eye contact'

we are encouraged to, "fix our gaze on Jesus"

He was certainly fixed on her, just the two of them

He, knowing she was coming, waiting for her

"My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to accomplish

His work" (Verse 34)

can that work possibly be to meet a sinful woman alone

and speak with her and meet her deepest need?

to focus her?

it was...and is

she received the gift and became an instant witness

"and from that city many of the Samaritans

believed on Him because of the word of the woman

who testified..."

and they came to hear Him and

"many more believed because of His Word."

Jesus has a purpose for you in

"your Samaria"

Seek Jesus...He will meet you, tell you who He is,

"I who speak to you am He."

She left her waterspout behind.

forget what is behind and reach up and grab hold

of a new thing, "instead of your shame you will have

a double portion." (Isaiah 61)

"Do not call to mind the former things, or ponder

things of the past. Behold I will do something new,

now it will spring forth, will you not be aware

of it? I will even make a rodeway in the wilderness,

and rivers in the desert." Isaiah 43

Every good and perfect gift

such a 'good and perfect' gift from my Kenyan sisters for bringing them the Word of God...they were so hungry and thankful there way up on the mountain in the midst of beautiful tea fields....a moment forever locked in my heart...what a privilege and honor...

Every good gift and every perfect ( free, large, full) gift is from above; it comes down from the Father of all [that gives] light, in [the shining of] Whom there can be no variation [rising or setting] or shadow cast by His turning [as in an eclipse]. James 1

Draw Near

Draw near

Let us then fearlessly and confidently

and boldly draw near to the throne of grace

(the throne of God's unmerited favor to us sinners),

that we may receive mercy [for our failures]

and find grace to help in good time for every need

[appropriate help and well-timed help,

coming just when we need it].

Hebrews 4:16 (The Amplified Bible)

The LORD your God is among you,

    a warrior who saves.
He will rejoice over you  with gladness.

He will bring you quietness with His love.
He will delight in you with shouts of joy."

Zephaniah 3

Oh, I like the sound of that.

the miracle of a single flower

The Tulip Farm in LaConner, WA

"If we could see the miracle of a

single flower clearly, our whole life would change."

"for since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made..." Romans 1

What is that to you....

If I want him to remain until I come,"

 Jesus answered,

"what is that to you?

As for you, follow Me

John 21

What is that to, what a powerful Word. Stops you cold. Humbles you. Even hearing these words from Jesus, the disciples didn't get it. He had to say it again.

What is _________ to you?

Let the words of my mouth

the meditations of my heart

be acceptable in Your sight,

O Lord.
