Martha Lake

“We rob God of praise by not pointing out his reflection in the people he has knit together in his image.”

“God is not given the praise he deserves when we ignore or deny the work he is doing in people.”

“Affirmation is a way to gain a hearing for the gospel.”

“Love does not first look for ways to correct.”

“Give so many affirmations as a pattern, a way of life, that you . . . are known for your affirmations, not your criticisms, your corrections.”

“It takes many affirmations to overcome the impact of a criticism.”

“Affirmations are deposits. Corrections are checks you write against the balance in the account. If you write too many checks in relation to the deposits, your checks bounce—they’re no good. It will take additional deposits to restore your credit.”

“You become ‘safe’ as a sounding board when people know the first thing out of your mouth will not be criticism when you hear their ideas.” (Ouch.)

Sam Crabtree Practicing Affirmation: God-Centered Praise of Those

Who Are Not God(Crossway).

Who have you affirmed today? Yesterday? We all need it.

Peace with God

Rosespinkpeacewith God_edited-1

Therefore, since we have been justified by faith,

 we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Through him we have also obtained access

by faith into this grace in which we stand,

and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings,

knowing that suffering produces endurance,

 and endurance produces character,

and character produces hope,

and hope does not put us to shame,

because God’s love has been poured

into our hearts through the Holy Spirit

who has been given to us.

Romans 5

I call with all my heart;

answer me, Lord.

I will obey Your Word.
I call to you;

You save me, and I will keep Your Word.

Psalm 119:145-146

Even before there is a word on my tongue,

behold, O Lord,

Thou dost know it all.  (Psalm 139)

No communication problem here.

You call, He answers, you obey.

Spirit and Life

It is the Spirit who gives life;

the flesh is no help at all.

The words that I have spoken

to you are spirit and life.

John 6  CSV

His disciples were 'grumbling' about Jesus teaching

on His body and blood. He asked them,

"What then if you should behold the Son of Man

ascending where He was before?

They had a hard time 'believing' because they

couldn't see the truth with their 'eyes'.

Jesus' Words need to be spiritually understood.

Jesus said they are 'spirit and are life.

Believing the truth

And Mary said,

    "My soul magnifies the Lord,
 47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
48for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant.
   For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed;
49for he who is mighty has done great things for me,
   and holy is his name.
50And his mercy is for those who fear him
   from generation to generation.
51 He has shown strength with his arm;
    he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts;
52 he has brought down the mighty from their thrones
    and exalted those of humble estate;
53he has filled the hungry with good things,
   and the rich he has sent away empty.
54He has helped his servant Israel,
    in remembrance of his mercy,
55 as he spoke to our fathers,
    to Abraham and to his offspring forever."

Luke 1

He is

I know that whatever God does,

it endures forever;

nothing can be added to it nor anything taken from it.

And God does it so that men will [reverently]

fear Him [revere and worship Him, knowing that He is].

Ecclesiastes 3

The angels who stood around the throne

knelt in front of it with their faces to the ground.

The elders and the four living creatures

knelt there with them.

Then they all worshiped God.

Revelation 7

Don't 'you want to be there too?

And he said, Thus says the Lord:

Make this [dry] brook bed full of trenches.

    For thus says the Lord: You shall not see wind or rain,

yet that ravine shall be filled with water,

so you, your cattle, and your beasts [of burden] may drink.

    This is but a light thing in the sight of the Lord.

2 Kings 3:16-18

Strange. He told them to dig trenches, then told them

they wouldn’t see rain, yet the valley

(thus their trenches) would be filled with water.

A ‘slight thing’ for our Lord.

Has He promised you something but

you don’t see any possibility of it happening?

Go ahead and build your trenches anyway.

(i.e. take a step of faith to the God who does the impossible.)

and then wait faithfully on the Lord to “fill your trenches”.
