Be watchful

“Be sober-minded; be watchful.

Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion,

seeking someone to devour.

Resist him, firm in your faith,

knowing that the same kinds of suffering

are being experienced by your brotherhood

throughout the world.”

1 Peter 5

As indeed he says in Hosea,

    "Those who were not my people I will call 'my people,'
   and her who was not beloved I will call 'beloved.'"
26 "And in the very place where it was said to them,

'You are not my people,'
   there they will be called 'sons of the living God.'"

Romans 9

Sharing Scripture and a Photo with Katie:

in your midst

Being asked by the Pharisees when

the kingdom of God would come, he answered them,

"The kingdom of God is not coming

with signs to be observed, nor will they say,

'Look, here it is!' or 'There!' for behold,

the kingdom of God is in the midst of you."

Luke 17

Put on love

bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.

And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.

Colossians 3

Who is the Lord?

Two things I ask of you;
   deny them not to me before I die:
Remove far from me falsehood and lying;
   give me neither poverty nor riches;
   feed me with the food that is needful for me,
lest I be full and deny you
   and say, "Who is the LORD?"
or lest I be poor and steal
    and profane the name of my God.

Proverbs 30

boast in the Lord

But God chose what is foolish in the world

to shame the wise; God chose what is weak

in the world to shame the strong;

God chose what is low and despised

in the world, even things that are not,

to bring to nothing things that are,

so that no human being might boast

in the presence of God. And because of him

you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us

wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification

and redemption, so that, as it is written,

"Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord."

1 Corithinians 1

All Mine are Yours and Yours are Mine

All mine are yours, and yours are mine,

and I am glorified in them.

And I am no longer in the world,

but they are in the world,

and I am coming to you. Holy Father,

 keep them in your name, which you have given me,

that they may be one, even as we are one.

 While I was with them, I kept them in your name,

which you have given me.

John 17

we hope for what we do not see

a few words from Thomas Merton from "Thoughts on Solitude"

My hope is in what the eye has never seen.

Therefore, let me not trust in visible rewards.

My hope is in what the heart of man cannot feel.

 Therefore let me now trust in the feelings of my heart.

My hope is in what the hand of man has never touched.

Do not let me trust what I can grasp between my fingers.

Let my trust be in Your mercy, not in myself.

Let my hope be in Your love, not in health,

or strength,or ability or human resources.

But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.

Romans 8

I will be with you

When you pass through the waters,

I will be with you;
   and through the rivers,

they shall not overwhelm you;
when you walk through fire

you shall not be burned,
   and the flame shall not consume you.
For I am the LORD your God,
   the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.

Isaiah 43

Inner Artist Exercise 1

I was on a photo drive on some backroads in Tennessee. It was a misty day. I came across this wood carver doing his work in a field. I grabbed my camera and my umbrella.  I was very nervous as he looked up at me and gave me a look that wasn't too welcoming. I asked him if I could take his picture. He nodded. I took several and jumped back in my car. It was 2 years later that I went back to the store near where I had seen him. I had made a photo collage of the pictures and wanted to get it to him. I showed it to some people in the store, and lo and behold, one of them was his brother! I gave it to them. They said he would be very happy with it. I had put my email on the back and he did send me a very short thankyou. That moment has given me courage to put the fear away and take that shot. I've never been  sorry.

on your doorposts

And these words that I command you

today shall be on your heart.

 You shall teach them diligently to your children,

and shall talk of them when you sit in your house,

and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down,

and when you rise.  You shall bind them as a sign

on your hand, and they shall be as

frontlets between your eyes.

You shall write them on the doorposts

of your house and on your gates.
